Life seems to be going at a healthy clip these days with no indication of slowing down, so I finally realized that if I really want to get my writing blog going again, I actually have to sit and write an article or something.

Hello, this is that article.

Is it rough? You bet! And I have no intention of smoothing this out too much. Let the words be what they are: sloppy or profound or simply words. Sometimes I forget that doing something is actually enough. That stuff doesn’t actually have to be “perfect” because artistic perfection is just chasing after an invisible standard, and that standard is in constant fluctuation with trends and newly acquired information. Which is to say that everything can potentially be perfect, given the right situation, and therefore everything already is perfect.

Sweet – I already aced the assignment – I can cut out early for lunch!

Okay okay okay – I took a little bit of a coffee break, but I’m back. Because this article deserves a little bit more in the words department. A little more pizazz. It’s my return to blogging, after all.

First let me just say that my book Infinity Mathing At the Shore & Other Disruptions is finally available wherever fine books are sold (seriously, go up to a bookstore and order a copy – I dare you!), or you can order it directly from the publisher at WeirdPunk Books. It’s a beautiful book – Croad did an excellent job with my cover art, and Sam Richards was a pleasure to work with – I felt like my stories were in really great hands the entire time. As for the stories they are my heart, my soul, my smelly guts: they are grotesque and beautiful and tremble with yearning. If you don’t purchase a copy of Infinity Mathing, I sincerely hope that you request one from your local library; requesting book titles is a great way to check out a book and show support for authors whose work you enjoy!

I have been DIY-ing my own book launch and learning a lot along the way. Contacting local bookstores for readings has been a bit nerve-wracking for my social anxiety, but folks have been so warm and supportive, and each bookseller who has allowed me to read has made me feel at home; I heartily recommend the experience for indie authors. You’ll feel more connected to your audience than ever before. Even the small reading turnouts haven’t been disappointing in any way; when the readings are very small, that’s when you can tell who is really listening to your work. It’s another beautiful, exhilarating moment of connection that writing and reading can create when everything lines up just right.

Currently I only have one more reading posted on my roster this year: I’ll be reading at VoidCon in West Virginia on September 27th at 8pm, and I hope to see you there! I’m also going to be working on making a few more appearances locally, but I’m scheduling around my upcoming top surgery.

That’s right – I snuck in a cute little top surgery announcement just like that – writer skills!

So as you can tell, I have a lot going on right now, which makes for excellent writing blog fodder. We’ve just barely scratched the surface of this chaotic paint job.
