I recently had my first (and second) day of school. I’m going back to study scientific illustration. If you didn’t happen to know, I have a background in animation and horror illustration, and love to draw even though I don’t do it as nearly as much as I used to (a common artist’s complaint).
The instructor didn’t specify that we needed to build a Portable Lighting System, but after she explained that we needed to isolate our subjects and light them in a very specific way, I decided to make one for myself anyway. So I went to an office supply store and picked up some black foam board that has two flaps that fold out like a triptych, and asked my partner Afton to cut them to my specifications because I’m still in recovery from top surgery. Very grateful to them for the help.
I’m also going to be attending a nature journaling conference online – I was lucky enough to win a scholarship to this event, and I can’t wait to experience the classes and meet new scientific illustration friends! I’ll let you know how that turns out. 🙂
